DOTS (directly observed treatment short
course) Clinic was started at BPKIHS
from 1st Bhadra 2057 as a
main center of Dharan Municipality. This
programme is being run in association /
collaboration with the National
Tuberculosis Programme and involving
Municipality of Dharan, District Health
Office-HMGN, NATA and BNMT. The
commitment of each member has been
clearly spelt out. BPKIHS runs a DOTS
clinic and provides facilities for the
diagnosis; treatment and management of
complications. It also provides support
to other DOTS - centers of Dharan
municipality and training facilities.
Department of Community Medicine and
Medical Record Section jointly supervise
DOTS Clinic of BPKIHS and other clinics
of Dharan Municipality. Dr. N. Jha
Associate Professor of Department of
Community Medicine co-ordinates the
activities of other clinics, Mr. D. D.
Baral, Senior Instructor manages the
overall function of these clinics and
Mr. S. Ansari, Senior Office Clerk works
in the BPKIHS DOTS Clinic. Clinic

The functions of main DOTS Clinic are
diagnosis, treatment, recording,
reporting, defaulter tracing, drugs
distribution and supervision of sub
centers. There are regular review
meeting of the main center with sub
centers, with District Health
Administration and Dharan Municipality.
Recognizing the importance of diagnosis
and management of tuberculosis in the
national contest, BPKIHS has taken the
lead in introducing the DOTS Programme
as part of the curriculum of MBBS
Programme. A teaching DOTS center is
functioning at Madhuban, Sunsari
district, which is directly monitored by
faculty members of BPKIHS. |
